President’s Report by Maree Armansin
HI all – March has arrived already and we have lots to report.
IAC – International Association for Counselling
You will see further in the QCA Newsfeed, some articles from the IAC which is an international Non-Governmental Association (NGO) with United Nations consultative status. Since 1966, they have worked to advance the development of counselling through practice, education, research, and advocacy initiatives. IAC advances the development of counselling in order to improve people’s lives and well-being. IAC Vision: A world where counselling is available to all.
Counselling changes lives for the better and reduces suffering. IAC’s humanitarian movement advocates for more access to counselling worldwide. IAC advocacy influences governments and intergovernmental organisations to have counselling better recognised as a profession. In some countries, there is no counselling at all. IAC helps to establish counselling structures (e.g. National Associations or Education Programmes) in those countries. IAC is working to advance the counselling profession worldwide and we invite you to join us in our mission. Technology is moving the global circle of counsellors ever closer. We embrace the modernisation of our profession and proudly serve to advance culturally relevant counselling practice, research, and policy worldwide.
The committee chose to join the association so that you are made aware of the work happening overseas as well as conferences and opportunities in other countries that you may be interested in. We are also able to share articles and references for your reading.
Our wonderful PD committee are retiring from their role in June. After 4 years of dedicated service and support they will be taking a well earned rest so we need some volunteers to step into the shoes. There is time to learn the role and understand the requirements so if you are available to become a PD committee member can you give Ros or myself a call asap. If there are a few people it makes the job a lot easier.
Our Friday night PD sessions have been wonderful and Working with Pets in a therapeutic setting was incredible. We had a great turn out and there was a lot to learn and there is emerging research happening to support this method. The video will be posted on line in a few weeks.
The PACFA portal is closing down and our access to it will also be non existent so you MUST download your data and logs to ensure that you have them in safe keeping. We will keep you posted as to the new system for membership in a few weeks. This is so important as we have not yet received our data and therefore it is essential to save yours. Please go into the PACFA portal and copy and paste it as a matter of urgency.
Thanks for your ongoing support.
