Message from the President

Dear Members,

As we move through the next month of COVID-19 we have been forced to postpone our closing celebration and professional development event that was to be held at the Sofitel Hotel in May. The hotel has generously waived any fees and allowed us to reschedule the event when the picture is clearer and we are allowed to be together in groups. Although we will officially be renewing our membership with PACFA this year it is still important that we close QCA and acknowledge our members, our 47 years of service to the community, and the incredible people including yourself that has made QCA what it is.

Our Professional Development providers are working hard and changing their programs to still bring you online PD. A big thanks to our presenters who have been agile and taken up the challenge to change their face to face delivery to a webinar format. The programs have been engaging and well attended.

A big shout out to the Online Group Supervisors who delivered 7 group supervision sessions to our members. The groups were a massive success and both the supervisors and participants have given glowing reports that it was of massive benefit to them and the conversations held during this time were both challenging and inspirational. Thanks to all who participated.

Relationships Australia (RA) in Spring Hill has provided us a home and meeting place for many years.  It has been an automatic response to just go to RA and we have appreciated their generosity and support to QCA over the years. We have in turn provided their staff with PD on our Friday evenings and Saturdays also. Unfortunately, RA will no longer be using the room for groups until 2021 and this has meant that we will be sourcing a new venue as soon as possible. The PD subcommittee will be looking at some new venues and we will notify you as soon as we are able to meet face to face again. If any of you are aware of a venue that would meet the needs of the new PACFA Qld group and be suitable for our Friday nights and Saturday programs can you email Ros.  Thank you to RA for providing us with a home.

Some members have offered to provide free counselling at the moment to people who are struggling. Whilst we cannot advertise “free” counselling services, we have registered with Volunteering QLD – Emergency Volunteering to advise that QCA is available if required to support people during this time. If you want to offer your services to them. then you could contact Emergency Volunteering – Register to join the COVID-19 response

PACFA has published a range of resources that we have forwarded to you for coping during this time and we have kept you up to date with QCA Newsfeed and webinar updates. Please check the QCA website for updates to PD and information.

Thinking of you all and look forward to seeing you at a new venue in the near future.
