This experiential workshop will explore the evidence for the therapeutic uses of storytelling and fairy tales in psychotherapy and counselling.
Participants can expect to gain:
- An understanding of the genre of fairy tales and therapeutic stories
- An understanding of how stories can be used in psychotherapy and counselling
- An understanding of why and how they are useful
- The experience of exploring a fairy tale using expressive arts
- The experience of writing a story following a structure (Six Part Story Method)
- Resources for further investigation
Presenter: Pam Blamey B. Soc. Sci., Grad. Dip. (Counselling), Dip. Gestalt Therapy, M. Mental Health (Art Therapy) is a mother of three and grandmother to four. Since migrating to Australia from South Africa in 1981, she has had a varied career including nursing, teaching English as a second language, counselling (including couples and those experiencing Domestic Violence), co-facilitating women’s groups, and the use of art therapy.
Pam has been in the counselling field for about 28 years. Her childhood love of fairy tales was re-ignited a decade ago when she discovered their therapeutic properties. She developed and conducted workshops exploring the therapeutic meaning in stories, fairy tales and myth. As a free-lance art therapist, she has given lectures, talks and workshops, including art therapy group sessions for high school girls and people in residential care.
