Presenter: Roger Lowe
Most counsellors will be familiar with the basics of Solution Focused Therapy. However, the model is often reduced to a few well-known techniques and slogans (e.g. the Miracle Question, problem-talk versus solution-talk, etc.). This presentation will focus on more recent ideas and developments in the model, in terms of the kinds of questions asked and the intent behind them. Some of the language has changed considerably. The expression ‘SFT 2.0’ has been coined. What is the same and what has changed?
The webinar will elaborate these points using clear examples, and will also include contributions from several well-known practitioners of SFT 2.0. The aim is to explain the changes in both theoretical and practical ways and to provide more options for practice. The presentation is intended to be both a ‘refresher’ in SFT and also an update. It is hoped that counsellors will be encouraged to revisit a familiar model and find something different that they can incorporate into their practice.
Presenter Roger Lowe has been a university trainer in counselling, family therapy and supervision for several decades. In particular, he has been involved with the Master of Counselling at QUT since its inception. This course was the first in Queensland to make Solution Focused Therapy a core component of training and Roger was the main teacher in this area until he retired from full-time work in 2011.
He is now a private psychologist and supervisor but has continued to teach SFT in other courses (e.g. the Master of Mental Health (Family Therapy) at the University of Qld). His other main interests are integration in counselling, and the use of systemic constellations in professional supervision.
