Presenter: Susan De Campo
Counsellors are invariably skilled at really getting to the heart of how someone who has experienced trauma feels. We can accurately describe, reflect and explore feelings. I have found however, that we can often feel stuck around what we can say, suggest or offer to facilitate healing, change and, hopefully, post-traumatic growth.
During this full day workshop, I will share strategies and ideas I have successfully used over the past 25 years when working with clients who have experienced trauma. Not surprisingly, there is research that supports my practice. Phew!
As the title suggests, we will look at how to work with short, medium and long-term manifestations of trauma – well, as much as we can in one day!
Presenter: Susan established LifeCare Consultancy in 1997. Her clinical experience with trauma was initially informed by her work as a Registered Nurse – she continues to provide single expert medico-legal reports/evidence for people who have suffered a catastrophic injury. This expertise has expanded via work in child protection and family law, and her generalist counselling practice.
In recent years Susan has increasingly focused on court-ordered parent-child reunification work and therapeutic supervision following a rupture in the parent-child relationship. LifeCare Consultancy personnel also provide post-separation parenting programs, professional development and clinical supervision for human service workers. Susan has taught counselling related units/courses at UQ, ACU and QUT and regularly appears on Channel 9’s A Current Affair.
