Presenters: Helen Sorensen and Sharon Lederlin
This presentation will provide an understanding of the origins of Equine-Assisted Mental Health (Eagala Model) and how it has evolved over the past 20 years. We will look at the research and populations that benefit from Equine Therapy, who can use it and how to access it.
We will discuss “why horses” as opposed to other animals. What are the unique characteristics and instincts that horses bring to the therapy space and how we as mental health professionals facilitate the interaction between our clients and the horses and how we minimize our involvement in that interaction.
Case studies will be presented for discussion.
