The Joy of a Quotation Journal…
Have you ever read something that really struck a chord? Perhaps somebody posted an inspirational quote on social media that seemed to speak to you directly? The world is full of words and there are a few special statements that stand out as being worth remembering. A quotation journal can keep track of all the wise words you might otherwise forget. All you need is something to write with and a notebook. You can start your thought-provoking journal today by scribbling down any quotes that have had an impact on you from a social media source or perhaps a favourite song or a novel you are reading.
This journal becomes a great resource to fall back on when you are looking for just the right words. You might be seeking a meaningful quote that is worth sharing with your clients or friends who are going through a tough time. Keeping a quotation journal can also chart your own attitudes and values over time. Looking over the quotes you have kept can be enlightening and it may be something you will appreciate in years to come.
Here are some of my favourite quotes in my journal:
The present moment is the only time anyone has to perceive, learn, grow or change
Jon Kabat-Zinn
This is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you
Maya Angelou
The parent-child connection is the most powerful mental health intervention known to mankind
Bessel van der Kolk
Life is not what it’s supposed to be. It is what it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference
Virginia Satir
Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves
Carl Jung
The only person who is educated is the one who has learned how to learn and change
Carl Rogers
Commitment isn’t about being perfect, always following through, or never going astray.
Commitment means that when you (inevitably) stumble or get off track,
You pick yourself up, find your bearings, and carry on in the direction you want to go.
Russ Harris
You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself any direction you choose.
You’re on your own and you know what you know.
And you are the one who’ll decide where to go…
Dr Seuss, Oh The Places You’ll Go!
