QCA membership is a significant indicator of a practitioner’s training and experience in counselling and psychotherapy.

Student – $55/year

  • Available to students who are undertaking training in Counselling or Psychotherapy.
  • Student members are not endorsed by QCA to be practising counsellors.
  • Application Fee:  $11 (inc. GST) – non-refundable
  • Annual Membership Fee:  $55 (pro-rata for 2nd quarter, 3rd quarter and 4th quarter applications)

Affiliate – $99/year

  • Available to those using counselling skills in their employment, but who have not yet attained appropriate qualifications, qualified counsellors looking for employment, or former members who have retired or those on extended leave.
  • Affiliate members are not endorsed by QCA to be practising counsellors.
  • Application Fee:  $33 (inc. GST) – non-refundable
  • Annual Membership Fee:  $99 (pro-rata for 2nd quarter, 3rd quarter and 4th quarter applications)

Associate – $220/year

  • QCA Associate members must have a relevant undergraduate qualification in counselling/psychotherapy to at least Diploma level from an approved training institution.
  • Application Fee:  $55 (inc. GST) – non-refundable
  • Annual Membership Fee:  $220 (pro-rata for 2nd quarter, 3rd quarter and 4th quarter applications)

Provisional – $270/year

  • QCA Provisional members must have education and training in counselling and psychotherapy undertaken in a qualification approved by the Tertiary Education Quality Standards Agency (TEQSA) or the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) at either the undergraduate or postgraduate levels (AQF level 7 to 9).  The minimum volume of learning requirements listed below applies to any program, whether undergraduate or postgraduate.
  • 400 hours of instruction (minimum) (applicable to AQF level 7-9).  This may be made up of:

(i) 200 hours direct person-to-person instruction of which 60 hours may be synchronous online (e.g. interactive webinars).

This equates to 140 hours which must be solely taught face-to-face, plus 60 hours of synchronous training. The central focus of this person-to-person instruction is on interpersonal skills development.

(ii) 200 hours of instruction may be conducted via online asynchronous training for theory-based studies.

  • Annual Membership Fee:  $270 (pro-rata for 2nd quarter, 3rd quarter and 4th quarter applications)

Clinical –  $354/year

  • QCA Clinical members must meet the criteria for Provisional membership;  AND
  • have completed a further 75 hours of post-training clinical supervision relating to 750 hours of post-training client contact, over a period of at least 2 years since qualifying for Provisional membership.
  • Application Fee:  $55 (inc. GST) – non-refundable
  • Annual Membership Fee:  $354 (pro-rata for 2nd quarter, 3rd quarter and 4th quarter applications)

Quarterly pro-rata fees apply where relevant.
