QCA had its Farewell Celebration on 7 November at Sofitel Brisbane. This event recognised those who had contributed to QCA over its 47 years history. The history of the association is recorded in a book ‘QCA Memoirs’ written by Karol Misso. Download a copy now.
The beginnings – 1970
Prior to the 1980’s, counselling was not considered a profession in Australia as it was in countries such as United Kingdom or the United States of America. Tertiary courses focussed on counselling were not part of university curriculum. Some training in basic ‘Counselling Skills’ did exist as an adjunct to pastoral care programmes run by churches and as a component of the other disciplines such as Education, Social Work and Psychology.
